In June and July 2019 WMS trained 27 members of our local community as part of our ‘Good Neighbours and Talking Families’ project, which ran for 2 hour sessions each week for 6 weeks, and was funded by Wandle Housing Association.
The course covered topics such as how to rebuild relationships, managing emotions in times of stress, improving listening skills, as well as understanding and expressing our needs so that others can understand us. We had a varied and diverse group, ranging from people who worked in the local community to individuals who wanted to learn new ways of communicating. The group was collaborative and open in sharing examples of conflict in their lives. The feedback was excellent, with participants unanimously agreeing that they learned new and relevant skills, with one participant saying, “I cannot think of a setting in which this would not be helpful. We were touched by the honesty and commitment of the group and we plan to run more of these courses within Wandsworth.
