WMS trains new community mediators with grant awarded by Wandsworth council

In February Wandsworth Mediation Service (WMS) trained up fifteen new volunteer community mediators with a grant awarded by Wandsworth Council and further support from the Co-operative Foundation.

The grant, awarded through the council’s Big Society Award Fund, enables WMS to offer more community mediations in Wandsworth to local neighbours and families in dispute. Fifteen local volunteers gave a combined 600 hours of their time to complete the week long training course, which will equip them with the skills to mediate community disputes.

Mediation helps people involved in a conflict to come together in a safe space and hold a difficult conversation about the issues they face. From families in conflict to neighbours at war, we facilitate a conversation which aims to help people find a shared solution that they both agree on.
